Geometrica, the new solution to displaying data measurements.

Geometrica and Geometric Gauge are newly patented inventions. It uses shapes as the means to display data. Use is primarily made of Geometrically shaped forms as we leverage the geometric properties to convey certain types of information. Geometric Gauge is replacing traditional bar graph and angular pointer type displays in all manner of applications.

Some of the benefits of using shapes are as follows:

No need to look away from primary task to observe gauge
No numbers or text to read

The problem is that we live in a world of constant change and technological advances, yet we still live with methodologies in gauges and displays that are 556 years old. In all this time, no fundamental or evolutionary changes have been made. We live in the information age, where information overload is evident as everything moves much faster. The fact is, gauges are becoming inadequate in this fast moving information age.

The solution is Geometric Gauge, as there is no need to look at the display directly to see the information and make sense of it. As long as the display is in the field of peripheral vision you can instantly make sense of the information presented. There is no need to focus on the display and do any reading at all, because there are no numbers or text shown on the display. The key is, there is nothing to read and nothing to focus on (The information is displayed in such a way, that while you are driving or flying an aircraft, the driver or pilot can concentrate on the road or landing, whilst collating all the information through his or her peripheral vision).

All the information is presented as shapes and all conditions derived from the data is shown and encoded onto these shapes. As an example, a driver of a vehicle would be able to focus on the road and be aware of the speed he was traveling with actually focusing on the instrument. Whereas, if he or she where using conventional gauges, the focus would be taken off the road and redirected on the odometer. The brain would take approximately 2 seconds to assimilate the information. The Geometric gauge eliminates the Information Overload phenomena and greatly increase the safety (of all types of travel) of us humans in the Information Age we are now living in.

Compared to Geometrica, Steam gauges and all types of Analog and Digital gauges appear to be from the Stone Age, and is basically rendered obsolete. Geometric Gauge is a paradigm shift in safety for instrumentation and is the first and only data display instrument designed since the dawn of the Information Age. There is no other. It addresses and solves the most pressing problems we inherited from the steam era gauges, as well as the Information Overload phenomena.

As mentioned, Geometrica uses shapes to display data, usually Geometric shapes. By using Geometric shapes, we make use of our brain's ability to recognize shapes. Over time, humans evolved as shape recognition and processing machines. This is one of the brain's most impressive feats. We can see minute distortions in shapes, when lines are not parallel, even if off by only a very small amount. We are able to recognize a face amongst millions even if we only saw a picture of that face for a very brief time. With Geometrica, we no longer need to focus on the display to read information. Even while focusing on something else, we are still able to see (recognize and interpret) the information in peripheral vision!

By using a shape instead of a pointer we remove the need to read information. This has a tremendous effect on the HMI. Our cognition is almost instant in recognizing the type of shape, its size and the extent to which it is seen as being geometrical or not. This means that we can focus on the primary task, like driving or flying, without being distracted. Geometrica has application in the Automotive, Aeronautical, Test & Measurement, Hmi & SCADA, Nuclear, Space, Factory Automation, Boats & Ships, Engineering, IT, Status indicators, Traffic management and many other sectors. It is an ideal technology to deploy on Heads Up Displays (HUD)

Where do gauges come from? Gauges are part of the industrial revolution, and a very recent invention. The Water sight glass gauge (Bar graph) was invented by Jang Young Sil, a Korean inventor and engineer of the Choson Dynasty, under the order of King Se Jong in 1441AD. In 1502 Peter Henlein, a craftsman from Nuremberg Germany, created the first watch. This became the first instrument ever with a moving and a static part. Thomas Newcomen was an English blacksmith, who invented the atmospheric steam engine in 1698, shortly after the first steam pressure gauge (Analog gauges) was invented by Watts. Until now, all gauges and instruments were based on these same principles.

With the advent of the Digital Age, all Industrial Age Instruments and Displays underwent an evolutionary change. The water sight glass was reinvented as the Bar graph display and the familiar Steam gauge remained unchanged. In essence, nothing has changed in the last 560 years.
